Class 8 - Miss Knaggs

Autumn Term - Maafa

This term has been incredibly busy in Class 8, we have learnt many new things and really matured as a class. As part of our Maafa topic, we have learned about slavery (including how slaves were treated, where they worked and how they celebrated death). We had a fantastic visitor, who taught us all about slavery and how slaves were transported across the Atlantic. One of our favourite things was our trip to Newcastle to create some African masks, while there we also saw some famous paintings and some amazing animals. We have also worked hard in other subjects too; including Art & Design (creating landscapes with tone & shade), Design & Technology (learning about healthy eating & making bread), Science (learning all about the heart & even making blood) and Computing (designing and creating websites). While getting ready for Christmas, we have worked hard on our performance, prepared items for our Christmas fayre and had a fantastic time at the party.

Spring Term - Frozen Kingdoms

We started this term by learning about our new topic 'Frozen Kingdoms', during which the children especially enjoyed ice-skating. We have also been learning about climate change and its impact on the world. The majority of our Geography learning has focused on the Arctic and the Antarctic. As part of our Art topic, we studied the Inuit People where we developed our stencilling and printing skills. In Science, we have been learning about classification and creating both digital and paper classification trees. We have also strengthened our understanding of animal groups and characteristics. In History, we have studied the RMS Titanic and the exploration experiences of Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton. We have been swimming this term, with more children completing their 25 metres! Well done! We have completed our Outdoor Learning, which was lots of fun, and we had lots of fun celebrating World Book Day. In writing, we have developed our skills and completed pieces on persuasive letters, narrative and short narratives.
