Autumn term- Through the ages

What an amazing term we have had! We have loved our time outside with David, making wild wraps, foraging for food, making spears and having a spear throwing competition.

As part of our theme work we had a visit from Murton Park where we learned about life in the Stone Age and making Stone Henge out of biscuits was very fun.

VIPERS (our reading sessions) saw us falling in love with the book "The Iron Man" and we followed this up with the Iron Woman. We loved making links and comparisons. Meeting the author LD Lapinski was so much fun and set off the count down to Christmas in the most perfect way.

Christmas saw us working with Ian Ramsey to enjoy prayer Spaces then we were amazing when we performed to parents for our Christingle. We are all ready for a rest now so we can come back and do it all again in January.

Spring term- Rocks, Relics and Rumbles

Spring term has been another busy term. Our topic was “Rocks, Relics and Rumbles” and we have loved learning about the earth, especially about volcanoes. In science we tested forces and magnets, in art we created fossil stamps and sketching, in computing we learned about branching databases and programming through scratch.

Our VIPERS book was “Firework Makers daughter” and we loved reading about Lila and her adventures. We acted out parts of the story, predicted next parts and described characters. We are looking forward to reading the Twits after Easter.
We have loved singing and learning new songs with Miss Sheraton and Mr Gibson, especially the thank you song.
Lauren from St Paul’s church came and led Easter prayer spaces which allowed us to reflect on what we are thankful for and what we would wish for the world. In RE we continued with this work and thought about why Christians call the day Jesus died Good Friday.

Summer term- Emperors and Empires

What a fun packed summer term we have had!  We have learnt about plants and their parts in science then sketched beautiful flower pictures outside in the sunshine.  We observed them closely and demonstrated our learning in detailed drawings.  In French we have learned how to say our name and age, about pets and our families.  We are getting so good at speaking a different language and using a French accent!  Our next topic in Science was light and shadows and we had great fun finding out how shadows change and how things reflect light.  Towards the end of the term we worked in teams to make some fantastic mini greenhouses and even planted mustard seeds in them.  Some have already started to grow.  We enjoyed a tiring but satisfying hike to Ropner Park to fulfil our promise and the next day showed off our sporting skills at Sports Day.  Well done everyone - you have worked hard this term and showed excellent resilience and teamwork.
