St John the Baptist Primary School
Autumn
In maths we’ve done lots of number and addition work and in our Drawing Club work we have used our imaginations to write some lovely sentences. Throughout our topic we have learnt about Neil Armstrong, Rosa Parks and Vincent Van Gogh and George Stephenson. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Hopetown to see George Stephensons first steam engine, the ‘Rocket’. In Science we have looked at human and animal survival and how we can keep our minds and bodies healthy.
We had lots of fun in Autumn 2. We have done some more amazing writing in Drawing Club, using books like The Hundred Decker Bus, The Giant Jam Sandwich and The Christmas Pine. In maths we've had fun exploring fact families, adding and subtracting and exploring 2D and 3D shapes. We went on a trip to the Cinema which was followed by a yummy Pizza Hut and we went to see the Snow White Pantomime, followed by our Christmas party (we were worn out that night)!
Spring
In maths we’ve done lots of place value and measuring work and in our English work we have written postcards, recounts and retold the Easter story. Throughout our topic we have learnt about natural & physical features of the coastline, Saltburn then and now and what the RNLI do. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Saltburn to see teh beach huts, gardens and rock pools. In Science we have looked at plant survival and how we look after plants.
We had lots of fun on our trip to Snappy Spring, and sang our hearts out! At the end of the term, we enjoyed showing our grown ups our self portraits at the school art exhibition.
In our last term in Year 1 we have had plenty of fun! We have learnt about Magnificent Monarchs and visited Raby Castle. We have spent time practising our skills for our sports day. We celebrated sleep awareness day by coming into school in our pyjamas and making sleep masks. We even had a little snooze! In our DT lessons we have learnt to sew and have enjoyed every minute! In Maths we have worked on time, multiplication & division, fractions and much more. In English we have written riddles, narratives, instructions and seen how our writing has improved since September! We can't wait tostart Year 2.
