St John the Baptist Primary School
Autumn Term
We have had a great start to Year 4 across the Autumn term. In Maths, we have been busy practising our times tables and in English we have been writing non-chronological reports about the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons. As part of our theme topic 'Invasion', we had a Viking Day where we learnt all about Viking games, battle tactics and formations and searched for Viking artefacts, In Science, we have learnt about the digestive system and how we hear sound. We have read some amazing books in out VIPERs sessions - our favourite being Krindlekrax! We also thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the cinema and performing at Snappy Christmas. It's been busy but exciting and we can't wait for the Spring term!
Spring Term
The Spring term has been a busy one for our class!
Our theme topic was 'Misty Mountains and Winding Rivers' and we have loved learning about rivers and mountains around the world. We went on a trip to AV Dawson in Middlesbrough which linked well with this topic - we learnt about the history of River Tees as well as the company. In science, we have learnt about grouping and classifying and used classification keys. We have researched Wiliam Morris in DT and sewed a hem. Our VIPERS books for this term have focused on Roald Dahl and we have read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The BFG! We have completed Prayer Spaces and looked at why Christians call the day Jesus died Good Friday. In PE, we have done gymnastics, yoga and cricket! We have also enjoyed celebrating World Down Syndrome Day, Autism Day and STEM day! A busy but exciting term and we are ready for the Summer term!
