Class 4 - Mrs Smith and Mrs Hardy (Y2)

Autumn - Childhood

This term we have settled into year 2 brilliantly! In maths we have been working hard on our place value skills and putting them into practise by using dienes. We enjoyed a walk to our local park as part of our English topic and wrote some brilliant recounts which included time conjunctions and past tense verbs. On our walk we looked for things related to autumn such as conkers and autumn leaves. In science we have been learning about our five senses and how they support us in daily living but also what we can do to help support those who have a loss of a sense. History has given us an insight into childhood from the past and how family trees work. We related this back to how childhood is now and how our own family trees look. We found that everyone’s family tree is different. We have been working hard in our PSHE lessons thinking about how we can help and support ourselves and our friends if we are having difficulties. We had a lovely trip out for PE to improve our gross motor skills. We enjoyed our trip to the cinemas and Nandos. We’ve had a brilliant time celebrating Christmas with our trip to see the pantomime, creating crafts and preforming our very own version of the nativity. Overall, we have had a great term and we look forward to coming back in January for some more fun challenges.

Spring - Bright Lights, Big City

Spring term has been very productive! We have had a great time and made lots of progress. We have enjoyed learning all about London in our topic Bright Lights, Big City. We learnt about London transport, cockney slag, famous landmarks and loved the fiction story of ‘Katie in London’. We learnt lots of facts about The Great Fire of London and we are able to recall some of these facts. In maths we learnt how to find a fraction of a shape and a number which was tricky at first but we didn’t give up. We had fun learning about healthy eating by making healthy wraps with our grown-ups. We’ve enjoyed looking out for the signs of spring and writing poems linked to the beautiful nature linked to spring. We had a great time making memories at Tweddle Farm, we found that the goats were very greedy and even stole some of our bags of food! We wrote a brilliant recount of our trip which included lots of time connective and expanded noun phrases. Year decorated some Easter Eggs with their grown-ups and made some lovely creations. Keep up the hard work Year 2!
