Class 1 - Miss Smith (ARP)

Autumn 1 - All about me

We have had a great start to the school year in Class 1, learning all about ourselves and where we live.

We have enjoyed settling back into an established routine and building relationships with each other. We have been learning lots of new and exciting things and the children have enjoyed learning all about their senses and body parts.

We have been very active and have spent time exploring the local area as part of out History and Georgraphy topic. We have been spending time in the school forest exploring all things Autumn! This has given us the opportunity to learn about and discover new areas of the school.

We have enjoyed sitting in the studio with the rest of the school and joining in with morning worship time.

Autumn 2 - Bright Lights, Big City

During Autumn 2 we have celebrated and explored Firework Night, Children in Need & all things Christmas!

Firework night gave us lots of lovely things to talk about, lots of lovely activities to do and lots of amazing new signs that we have learnt.

We had a class visitor - Snowman the ELF! We have loved joining in with the activities he has given us and seeing what he has been up to!

We visited Billingham Forum and went Ice-Skating with our friends, we had lots of fun and worked hard on our gross motor skills trying to skate independently.

We have been working really hard on our targets during Autumn 2 and are growing in confidence in this area!

Some of us were lucky enough to participate in the school sleepover - it was so much fun - we even had a pillow fight.

Spring 1 - Space Exploration

We had a lovely half term and have been very busy - exploring All things Space.

The children throughly enjoyed this topic and were really enagaged in all of the learning that took place. We enjoyed exploring lots of sensory tuff trays and making things related to the topic.

We dressed up as Astronauts and learnt about all the things an Astronaut would need to go to Space.

We worked hard on counting down from 10 to allow the rocket to take off - many of us mastered this skill.

Some of us had a visit to the local pub for lunch with our friends from Calss 10.

We worked hard on our fine motor skills and continued to practise writing our name.

We also enjoyed learning about many different special days and celebrations. For Children's Mental Health week we did lots of things that made us happy and had a visit from our school therapy dog. We also celebrated Pancake Day and Chinese New Year!

Spring 2 - In the Garden

We have had another brilliant half term to end our Spring term. Our theme has been ‘In the Garden’.

We have loved reading stories such as Jack and the Beanstalk, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Enormous Turnip and What the ladybird heard.

The children have enjoyed planting seeds and looking after them observing what happens when they grow. We have done lots of work around what a plant needs to grow. We have had some walks around the local community looking for signs of Spring.

We have enjoyed learning about Easter and the story of the last supper as well as joining in Easter celebrations by tasting hot cross buns and having an Easter egg hunt.

We visited Tynemouth Aquarium which was a hit with the children!

We are looking forward to exploring our new topic - Slice, Chop and Mash in Summer 1.

Spring 2 - In the Garden

Summer 1 - Chop, Slice and Mash

What a fun-filled term we have had. We have been to Holmside Park and Hardwick Park for school trips and some of us visited Stockton Town Centre to buy fresh vegetables from the market to make vegetable soup and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

We have been reading stories such as The Magic Porridge Pot and Don't put your finger in the jelly Nelly using sensory stories and story sacks to enhance our learning, aswell as learning lots of new signs and vocabulary linked to our topic.

We got some class caterpillars and have observed them over the term, waiting for them to turn into Butterflies - when we will release them into the wild.

We celebrated Earth Day where the children got really messy and learnt lots of new knowledge.

During PSHE, we have been looking at babies to adulthood and the children have enjoyed looking at pictures of themselves and telling us what humans need to survive.
