Autumn Term 1 2023: My Everyday Life!

What a fabulous start to the school year we have had in Nursery!  The children have settled well and have been enjoying exploring their setting and learning through lots of exciting play. This half-term we have been learning all about ourselves and our emotions and read the book, The Colour Monster. We have also enjoyed lots of Autumn activities and made the most of the last of the summer weather in our woodland area. Every week we have read a new book in class and added it to our Reading Journey display. The staff and children are all looking forward to see what fun we will have in the next half-term!

Autumn Term 2 2023: Starry Night!

We have had a fantastic time in Nursery and have been busy learning lots of new and exciting things. We have made the most of our mud kitchen and the children have made potions, chopped up seasonal vegetables and used a real china set to make cups of tea! Some of the children’s favourite books this half-term have been ‘Whatever Next’ and ‘Peace at Last’. We’ve talked about bedtime routines and how astronauts travel to space.  This half-term we have also learnt about Diwali, Remembrance Day and the Birth of Jesus Christ. We have welcomed some new faces in Nursery from the Two-Year-old provision and  the children have also started to take part in daily phonics activities to prepare them for Class 1.

Spring Term 1: Footprints in the Snow

The children have loved this icy topic and enjoyed finding out what happens to frozen water, how to make ice melt, and how people keep themselves warm in cold weather. They have also created some wonderful winter artwork and painted with ice. This half-term has also included Children's Mental Health Week and Chinese New Year. One of the many highlights of the half-term was meeting Mrs. Conroy's Therapy Dogs- they brought a smile to all of the children's faces!

Spring Term 2: The Vegetable Patch

We have been learning lots of wonderful things this half-term and even grown our own cress and pea shoots. We’ve sampled a variety of fruit and vegetables and looked at how root vegetables grow. We have enjoyed preparing the planters in the woodland for planting vegetables later in the spring. We have also looked at springtime seasonal changes and created beautiful spring flowers artwork. We have ended the half-term with learning about the importance of the Christian celebration of Easter and enjoyed inviting parent/carers into school to join us for Easter crafts.
