Class 9 - Mrs Pogue

Autumn Term - Maafa

Curriculum Overview

Knowledge Organiser

WOW.. what a term! I want to start by saying the whole Year 6 team are so proud of the children and their commitment this term. We have faced our fears, enjoyed countless trips and completed so much learning in the process. We started off our term in September and settled into class, we paid respects to our late Queen Elizabeth II and we were visited by Dogs Trust. We have completed learning about all four operations in maths and we led a whole school worship on Harvest Festival. We have attended church, been swimming and had a workshop with Marsha Garrett. In PE we have enjoyed workshops with Amber and Andy in Dance and Athletics which the children thoroughly enjoyed. As part of our topic Maafa, we visited the Hatton Gallery and learned all about African culture and the triangular slave trade. In November, we experienced a three-day residential to Robinwood. It was memorable for sure and all of the children pushed themselves to their limits! As part of our writing we have completed poems on Black History and setting descriptions. The entire class has worked so hard towards our Christmas performance and we are looking forward to showing you all it. In December we sang at the Mayor's Carol Service and received a letter of thanks and sang at the local organised event 'Snappy Christmas'.

Spring Term - Frozen Kingdom

We have completed Spring term and what a term it was, we started off the term introducing our new topic 'Frozen Kingdoms' which the children enjoyed ice-skating. As part of our topic we have studied the Inuit people in Art and created sculptures and developed our stenciling and printing skills. In history, we have studied the RMS Titanic and the exploration experiences of Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton. In Geography, we have been learning about the different landscapes of the Arctic and Antarctic. Throughout this term, the children have been preparing for their End of Key Stage Two assessments in May and they have worked extremely hard. We have enjoyed a visit from Simon Carson and we played the Game Of Actual Life which the children thoroughly enjoyed. We have been swimming this term, with more children completing their 25 metres! Well done! We had lots of fun celebrating World Book Day and completed some book reviews to showcase our favourite books. In writing, we have developed our skills and completed pieces on persuasive letters, narrative and short narratives.
