Year 4 - Miss Knaggs

Autumn 1 - Heroes & Villains

Theme Overview & Knowledge Organiser

We were lucky enough to visit the Life Centre to learn all about our bodies. We also watched an amazing show about how science can help create a superhero.
We completed our First Aid training.
We completed a skateboarding workshop, where everyone learnt new skills.
During Mental Health Awareness Day, we completed a workshop that encouraged us to look after our bodies and minds.
This half term, Year 4 have been very busy. We started with Community week, where we thought about the people around us not just in Stockton but around the country and the world. We met Alex Cunningham, who is our local MP. After this, we went swimming at Splash, all children worked incredibly hard. Finally, we started our topic of Heroes and Villains. We have written about Cruella De Vill, Gangsta Granny, Simba, Rosa Parks, Henry VIII and Pat McBride (a local hero). Year 4 have really enjoyed our class story of Gangsta Granny, especially when Granny does yoga in her underwear.

Autumn 2 - Burps, Bottom & Bile

Theme Overview & Knowledge Organiser

We completed a yoga workshop.
We completed a workshop on Narnia. First we used role play, then we discussed how Narnia links to the bible.
Finally we had our Christmas party, we had great fun playing games.
What a lovely half term we have had! Lots of lovely workshops, trips and visitors. We have had Box2befit, archery, yoga and a trip to the cinema and Nando's. We have dressed up in our pajamas for children in need and our Christmas jumpers for Christmas jumper day. We have had a trip to the pantomime and a workshop focussing on Narnia. Finally, we celebrated Christmas with our Christmas performance, Christmas party, church carol service and carols around the tree. Alongside all of this we have been learning about our digestive system and our teeth.

Spring 1 - I am warrior!

We had a very exciting workshop with illustrator Liz Million, where we drew a Roman soldier, gladiator, Julius Caesar and Boudicca.
We used positive post it’s during mental health week to promote what makes us fantastic.
We made some fantastic shields. Unfortunately, it was too windy for us to complete all the formations outside.

We started this half term with another block of swimming, where we all worked hard. Lots of Year 4 also faced their fear, through jumping in at the deep end. We also completed Box2befit, Fit4kids and had a visit from author/illustrator Liz Million. While working with Liz we drew Julius Caesar, a roman soldier, Boudicca and a fearsome lion! We spent lots of time learning about the Romans in our topic of I am Warrior! We got creative and made clay coins and fantastic shields. We completed lots of writing around the Romans, including letters from Hadrian's wall (which you can still visit) and as a Celtic farmer. We also wrote historical narratives, where we were Maticus the gladiator and Boudicca's right-hand man. We ended the half term with a visit from our parents.

Spring 2 - Mighty Metals
This has been a short half term but we have still learnt a lot. We started looking at forces and metals, which allowed us to complete lots of fun experiments. Alongside this we had a judo workshop, which was lots of fun, World Book Day and Sports Relief.
