Year 3/4 - Mrs Smith & Mrs Pratt

Autumn 1 - Heroes and Villains

Another busy half term completed!

We have had great fun exploring and learning, which has included:

  • how to create animations in Computing,
  • investigating Rocks and Soils in Science, and particularly enjoyed representing the Earth's layers with different foods,
  • finding out about real-life heroes and villains
  • understanding rights, responsibilites and laws
  • exploring different jumps/leaps and rolls in PE

We have also enjoyed additional sports activities, such as Tag Rugby and Urban Kaos dance, and Year Fours have been swimming.

Autumn 2 - Burps, Bottoms and Bile

We cannot believe how quickly this half term has gone, as we've managed to squeeze in so many fun things alongside our usual timetable. These have included:

  - a fantastic day out at the cinema, followed by lunch at Bella Italia

  - an energetic HIIT2BFit session in school

  - a visitor in school teaching us about Black History

  - a fun day playing rugby

  - celebrating Children in Need Day, Remembrance Day and other religious festivals

  - a sponsored Reindeer Run plus Christmas arts and crafts, and baking

Our theme was 'Burps, Bottoms and Bile' so we learned all about the digestive system. We learned about the journey that our food and drink makes through our body, and how poo is made! Although it sounds disgusting, we had a great time reading and writing stories, watching video clips, matching animals to their poo, and creating a model of how the body makes its waste.

Spring  - Rocks, Relics and Rumbles

This half term we have been exploring volcanoes, how they erupt and what the pros and cons are of having a volcanic eruption. We made our own volcanoes and made them erupt and we researched different volcanoes around the world. In computing we have been making branched databases, we used the information from the volcanoes research to make one too! In PE we have been learning how to do various balances and rolls using our gymnastics skills. During our English we have written non-chronological reports, shape poems and explanatory texts based on volcanoes. In Maths, we have been working hard to solve multiplication problems. In Spring 2, we have enjoyed writing newspaper reports, learning about earthquakes and tsunamis and practising our measurement and money skills. We loved dressing up for World Book Day and shared our favourite stories in our class.
