Year 3/4 - Mrs Cundliffe

Autumn 1 - Heroes and Villains

This half term we have enjoyed settling into our new class. We have loved our topic, Heroes and Villains, looking at Cruella De'Vil, Bonnie and Clyde and writing some comic strips! In English we worked on persuasive writing, writing alternative endings to fairy tales and writing newspaper articles. In Maths we have worked hard on our Place Value knowledge and are getting familiar with column addition and column subtraction. Our Science topic, Rocks and Soils, has seen us making mud puddings to show the layers of the earth, we have taken part in soil investigations and researched Mary Anning and how she is linked to fossils. In our Thrive time, we have particularly enjoyed team games and going out to bake, we made pear crumble, cakes and jam cereal bars (we wanted to make the cereal bars as we read about them in our comprehension!) Year 4s are looking forward to going swimming next half term!

Autumn 2 - Burps, Bottoms and Bile

This half term we have had so much fun learning about our bodies. We learned the functions of each part in our digestive system and how they work, we even compared them to animal’s digestive systems, did you know a cow has 3 stomachs? Our most favourite experiment was making a working model of the digestive system, using tights and food ingredients, we made poo! Alongside this, we have learnt a lot of new vocabulary. Our class had an amazing time fulfilling one of our promises, we went to the cinema and we ate in Bella Italia, yum! We reminded ourselves how we can stay healthy too!

Spring Term - Rocks, Relics and Rumbles

This half term we have been exploring volcanoes, how they erupt and what the pros and cons are of having a volcanic eruption. We made our own volcanoes and made them erupt and we researched different volcanoes around the world. In computing we have been making branched databases, we used the information from the volcanoes research to make one too! In PE we have been learning how to do various balances and rolls using our gymnastics skills. During our English we have written non-chronological reports, shape poems and explanatory texts based on volcanoes. In Maths, we have been working hard to solve multiplication problems. In Spring 2, we have enjoyed writing newspaper reports, learning about earthquakes and tsunamis and practising our measurement and money skills. We loved dressing up for World Book Day and shared our favourite stories in our class.
