Well Autumn 2 didn’t go fully to plan! The Fire fighters cancelled their visit, our actor visit didn’t go ahead and our class closed! Despite all of that we have had fun and learned lots. We looked at London and all the wonderful places we could go to if we were lucky enough to visit. Then we looked at London long ago and the impact that the Great Fire of London had. We learned our number bonds to 10 and 20, counted, ordered numbers, compared numbers and even looked at money and the value of coins and notes.
When we returned after our class closure we started to celebrate Christmas. We practised our play, made decorations, calendars, cards, learned about the nativity and the importance of Jesus and we had an amazing “Christmas Day” where we enjoyed a reindeer run, party games, yummy food and most importantly had lots of fun.
Spring 1 - Dinosaur Planet
Well that was not the half term we had planned! Again we had to stay home to stay safe.
While at home we have been learning about dinosaurs, Mary Anning and the children have found out some amazing facts.
We had made some marvellous art work both in school and at home. We have some very talented children and parents.
We hope we will all be back together soon!
We ended the term by all coming back together and it has been wonderful to have everybody back! We have had really enjoyed our scented garden topic and have enjoyed going outside looking at plants and flowers and learning how to care for them. We have planted peas and flowers and know that we need to give them water, sunlight and a little bit of love :) We have worked so hard with our maths since coming back to school. We have all looked at measuring, addition, subtraction and worked on our place value knowledge!
We have enjoyed celebrating World Book Day & World Down-syndrome Awareness Day too.
We ended the half term with a wonderful Easter week, where we have made cards, Easter head-dresses, cakes and most importantly learned about the Easter story and the sacrifice that Jesus made for us.
We have had a jam-packed half term in Summer 1. Our theme has been Paws, Claws and Whiskers, we have learned about which animals live in certain places and why. We have learned about the role of a zookeeper and what they do to protect and care for animals. We have enjoyed Tiger day as a class, looking at Tiger enclosures, Tigers in the wild and creating a fact file. We have also had class pets and cared for five caterpillars, we have watched them grow and turn into butterflies which has been wonderful! We have celebrated Mental Health week and focused on how nature can help us to relax.
Summer 2-Memory Box
What a fantastic half term we have had in Year 1/2. To start our topic of memory box off we looking into how toys have changed over time and enjoyed a zoom call with Simon who works at Beamish. He showed us lots of toys from the past. We enjoyed a trip to Hardwick Park, we explored the woods, enjoyed playing in the park and had a picnic outside in the glorious sunshine. We have created scrap books, photo frames and built our own bridges in our science experiment. A fantastic end to a wonderful year, we hope all the children enjoy the summer holidays.
