Year 1/2 - Mrs Elliman

Autumn 1- Street Detective

We have had a fun but tiring half term. After learning about British Values in week 1 and focusing on tolerance and acceptance we moved onto topic; Street Detectives. During this topic we went on a walk in the local area to look  at the purposes of different buildings. We used the text, The 3 Little Pigs and read different versions of it. We re-told the story, wrote our own stories and we made and tested houses using different materials. We were also lucky enough to visit the Shack and work with Paul. We have picked up new routines, made new friends and worked hard to follow our 3 golden rules. We are ready for a rest now but watch this space for some more exciting times in Autumn 2.

Autumn 2- Beat, Band, Boogie

It's Christmas!! What a wonderful time of the year and a busy one!

We started off the half term with our "Beat, Band, Boogie" topic, which saw us making different instruments, listening to and making our own music. We were lucky enough to learn about instruments from Mrs Nicholson, Adam from Front Row Music and some members of the Salvation Army. We have enjoyed singing, dancing and Mrs Lidford had the children marching like the Queens Guard when we learned about 'The Trooping of the Colour'.

Christmas saw Reindeer runs, pantomimes, parties and fun with a snowman theme. The children have worked hard and need a rest so that they are ready to come back and have more fun while learning.

Spring- Bright Lights, Big City

What a wonderful term! This term our topic has been Bright Lights, Big City in which we have learned all about London, it's landmarks and the history of our capital city. We thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Great Fire of London. We also compared London to Kuala Lumpur, I am so impressed at how much the children know.

We have learned about the festival Holi, we have dressed up and planted sunflowers for Ukraine, praying that they are safe and thinking about what peace means to us. We had so much fun dressing up for World Book Day and we had fun on our Easter week, using our Art and DT skills to make cards, crafts and eggs. We also learned about Easter and what Christians do in the run up to Easter and the events of Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
