Autumn 1- Street Detectives
We have had a fantastic half term in Year 1/2. The children have settled brilliantly into their new class and we started the year off with British Values week. We looked at the Golden Rules in school and why we are all different but all loved. Our topic this half term was Street Detectives, we visited our local area and learned about our 'Superheroes' that help in the community. We looked at different types of houses, which linked with our Science topic 'Materials', and created edible houses made of food! We enjoyed a visit from Marsha Garrett as part of Black History Month and learned all about the Rasta culture. We've enjoyed reading lots of version of 'The Three Little Pigs' and even picked our favourite version. We are looking forward to next half term and letting the fun continue.
Autumn 2 - Beat, Band, Boogie
We have had a wonderful half term in Year 1/2. Our topic was Beat, Band, Boogie which means we have learnt all about music! We have made musical instructions from recycled materials and learnt about tempo, pace, melody and the pitch in music. We celebrated Children in Need and learned about Hats of Faith as part of British Values. Our trip this half term was to watch Trolls at the cinemas, we had a brilliant time and enjoyed making Trolls artwork. We are now looking forward to Christmas and learning all about The Christmas Story and Advent.
Spring Term - Bright Lights, Big City
What a fantastic term! We have been so busy in Year 1/2 and we've been working so hard. This term our topic has been Bright Lights, Big City in which we have learned all about London, it's landmarks and the history of our capital city. We thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Great Fire of London. The children have celebrated Holi festival and we have learned about the Easter story and the sacrifice that Jesus gave for us. We have dressed up for World Book Day and wore yellow and blue for Ukraine, it has been amazing! In our science we have learned about the weather and how the wind and temperature are measured. In Literacy, we have continued to develop our writing focusing a lot of our work on Marley the Meerkat.
