We have had a really busy half term. We have all settled really well into our new class. Our theme has been 'Street Detectives'. As part of this we have been learning all about our community. We have had visits from the fire engine, police officers, Warburtons and Rev Jennie from St John's church. In our numeracy work we have been practising our counting skills and number recognition, we have also been adding and subtracting. We have been reading three times a week and are now becoming much more confident readers. We are looking forward to Autumn 2.
We've had a really busy half-term but have all been working very hard! We have really enjoyed our topic 'Beat, band, boogie' and have loved learning about and using lots of different musical instruments. The Salvation Army came into school and played us some music- they then let some of the children have a go!
We loved going on our Autumn walk at the beginning of the half-term to look for signs of Autumn. The children are brilliant at comparing how Autumn is different to Winter.
We have continued to work hard in our reading, writing and numeracy work this half-term and becoming more confident to have a go and work independently, even when things are challenging!
It's been another busy half term in Reception/Year 1. We have all really enjoyed our topic 'Muck, Mess and Mixtures' and have loved getting messy in lots of different activities. We started our half term with a 'messy afternoon' where the children explored lots of different textures including shaving foam, porridge, cornflour and slime! We have all been working really hard with our writing and have enjoyed doing lots of work based around the story 'Room on the Broom'. As part of our number work we are becoming really confident at adding and subtracting too. We're all looking forward to our new topic next half term!
We have all really enjoyed our topic this half-term and have loved learning all about castles. We learnt how to do archery which was tricky at first but we persevered and became really confident at learning this new skill! One of our favourite days this half-term was World Book Day, we focused on the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We enjoyed going into the forest and finding lots of different objects from the story. The troll from The Three Billy Goats Gruff also visited our classroom this half-term, he asked us to write some letters to the goats to tell them that the troll was sad because he was pushed in the river. We wrote letters, posted them at the post box and even got a reply! As you can tell, it's been a busy and exciting half term for Reception/Year 1. We can't wait to get back to school again!
