Nursery - Miss Smith

Autumn 1- My Everyday Life

What a busy first half term we have had back in Nursery! This half term our theme has been 'My Everyday Life'. We started off the half term thinking all about friendships and families, as part of this we read the story 'The Tiger who came to Tea' and had our very own Tiger Tea Party! We then looked at where we live and where we go to school. We walked around the school grounds and talked about what we could see- some children recognised  their brothers or sisters classroom too! Finally we read the story 'Supertato' and learnt all about people who help us, harvest and Autumn. The children loved digging up vegetables in the soil and talking about which foods they were thankful for.

Autumn 2- My Everyday Life

We have had a lovely half term in nursery. We continued our theme of My Everyday Life but thought more about our body parts and people in our community who help us. We loved learning about different celebrations such as bonfire night, Diwali, Hanukkah and Christmas and talked about how they are similar or different to celebrations that we have with our families. We also spent a week learning about the story of The Gingerbread Man. The children were fantastic at retelling the story and remembering the key refrains. We had Rev Jenny come in to lead class worship with us, the children loved listening to the bible story she told us linked to our worship theme of compassion. We are all looking forward to beginning our new theme next term.

Spring 1- Fantasy and Adventure

Spring 1 has been another busy half term in nursery. We have loved our new theme 'Fantasy and Adventure'. We started off the half term learning all about dinosaurs. The children were fantastic at naming all kinds of dinosaurs and talking about their different features. We then moved onto pirates which the children loved. They enjoyed learning and using lots of new vocabulary linked to pirates. The children also enjoyed learning all about Chinese New Year. We made and tasted some Chinese food, made Chinese lanterns and did some fabulous dragon dancing. The children have also enjoyed building on their friendships through turn taking games, parachute games and within child-led play.

Spring 2- Fantasy and Adventure

This half term we have continued our theme of 'Fantasy and Adventure'. We have looked at Spring and how the world around us changes during this season and done lots of activities around planting and growing. As part of this, we planted our own cress and sunflower seeds and talked about how we can help them to grow. We also had lots of different celebrations that we learnt about this half term including Pancake Day, Festival of Holi and World Book Day. As part of our physical development, the children went on a trip to the soft play at Ragworth Neighbourhood Centre. We loved climbing, jumping and moving in lots of different ways as well as having fun and playing together. This was a really exciting and special day for nursery.
