Looking for signs of autumn
Having fun in phonics
We have had such a lovely start to the school year and been so busy learning about our autumn topic. We have investigated the colours in leaves, created autumn themed paintings, looked at animals that hibernate and cooked pumpkin soup, pumpkin pie, bramble crumble and honey biscuits! During our daily class worships we have been thinking about all the things that we are thankful to God for. We have also been learning about the importance of Harvest, and Reverend Jennie kindly lead one of our class worships about the Festival Harvest. Another highlight to the half term was World Mental Health Day which saw the children work with Kidz R fit Hoopstarz. The children behaved brilliantly, listened well and demonstrated some amazing hula hooping skills!

What an amazing half-term we have had in EMS! The children have absolutely loved our space topic and have produced some beautiful pieces of writing and artwork! We have been learning about the solar system, the first moon landing, the role of an astronaut, Tim Peak who was the first British Astronaut in space and much more! Highlights of this half term have been the children climbing up a huge climbing wall, a circus workshop, practicing Christmas songs with Makaton signs and acting out the Nativity Story. We have also been fortunate to have Reverend Jennie delivering our class worship every Tuesday morning which is something the children always look forward to. The children have worked so hard this half-term and we are immensely proud of them all.

Making a story map
Wow! What an interesting half-term we have all had! All the children have worked extremely well, whether they have been in school or learning from home. We have enjoyed learning about traditional tales and looked at some very interesting alternative versions like Jack and the Baked Beanstalk, The true story of The Three Little Pigs, Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes and Snow White in New York, to name but a few! In Maths we have been having so much fun completing practical problem-solving activities. We particularly enjoyed a problem-solving based on cooking activities and sharing sweets! In EMS we have been continuing our Makaton learning journey with some new songs and learning more signs to help us express our feelings and emotions. A highlight to this half term was Children's Mental Health Week and our weekly sessions with the therapy ponies, Mo, Boots, Sven and Nutella!
It may have only been a five week half-term, but we seemed to have packed lots of learning into it! We have enjoyed learning about animals and their young, the stages of the human life-cycle and the growth of things in the natural environment, such as plants and trees. The children had so much fun taking part in learning the Jerusalema dance for a very worthy cause. They also enjoyed Down's Syndrome Awareness Day, dressing up for World Book Day and learning all about the amazing Amelia Earhart. We ended our Half-term with a surprise visit from some lambs and taking part in exciting Easter activities which even included an Easter-egg hunt! The children listened intently to stories from the Bible about the last week of Jesus' life and asked thought-provoking questions. They were all amazing at retelling the story of Holy Week and produced some lovely pieces of written work.

Carnival writing
The children have thoroughly enjoyed our Brazilian themed topic and they have retained so many interesting facts and vocabulary from their learning! They can name the different layers of a rainforest, name famous Brazilian footballers, tell you about famous landmarks, for example Sugar Loaf Mountain, and tell you how tall the Christ The Redeemer statue is and how many times it has been struck by lightening! The topic has helped the children learn about the effects of deforestation and given them opportunities to write persuasive letters to try and save the world's rainforests. We've also cooked Brazilian cuisine and taken part in a Samba drumming workshop with Tees Valley Music- it was so much fun! Other highlights to the half- term was Mental Health Awareness Week, Earth Day, Christian Aid Week and learning all about the Muslim festival, Eid Ul Fitr.
